The Best Dessert Ever!

Martha, my Maw (mom at work) was at it again today. First it was homemade salsa and guacamole for BabyDear, then lentil soup and now it's Tortilla De Banana!

Can you say yum?!??

This delicious treat is made by browning a tortilla with a little butter, then adding sliced bananas, chocolate chips, brown sugar and cinnamon then heating until melted. At the very end put a little scoop of your favorite ice cream on the mixture then fold in half. Add more ice cream on top and enjoy!!!

Thanks Martha!!

From a Friend

Ahhh, coffee!! That has been the hardest to go without so far! I thought no vino would be hard! I never realized how comforting my morning coffee was to me. It was a part of my routine. It was t time in my day just for me.

I was talking with a friend at work about how good her coffee smelled and we joked about how baby can't have any. She came back from her lunch with a special mocha just for baby ( and me). Don't worry, there is very little caffeine in this one!

Oh my goodness! It tastes so good!!!

Thanks Katie! What a perfect treat for a Monday!

Preggnatinis for Baby Shower

Look at this fun idea for us pregnant mommas out there! I am sure Kara and I would love to sip on one of these while talking baby stuff!

das jahr

I love this print and can see this in the bedroom when BabyDear is a toddler.  It seems to tell a story and I would hang this in a heartbeat!

The title is "das jahr” and is by Marlene Reidel.

Preparing for Baby

What a great article found here at designmom about preparing for the first few days at home with the new babydear!  I know I will be studying this!

Here are the topics covered: Sleeping, Feeding, Bathing/Diapering, Mom and Clothing.

What to Eat

Here is an easy guideline to follow for the next 6 months. More information can be found here.

1. Nine or more servings (fistfuls) of fruits and vegetables
Good choices:
☑ Leafy green vegetables
☑ Cruciferous vegetables, such as cauliflower, broccoli, arugula, cabbage, and brussels sprouts (They help detoxify your liver so it can metabolize chemicals from the outside world.)
☑ Foods that contain flavonols, like broccoli, radishes, onions, tomatoes (Try this tasty vegetable satay.)

2. Three or more servings of whole-grain products
Good choices:
☑ Cereal grains
☑ Oats (Make easy overnight oatmeal.)
☑ Whole-grain wheat products
Bad choices:
☒ Refined bleached flour or non-100% whole grains

3. Three or more servings of lean protein
Good choices:
☑ Fish (especially salmon and trout)
☑ Lean poultry (skinned and nonfried)
☑ Lean meat (Meat that has less than 4 grams of saturated fat per serving; anything with loin in the name usually works.)
☑ Legumes (Cook up this slow-cooker lentil stew.)
☑ Beans (with Beano, to reduce accompanying gas cramps)
☑ Nuts (especially walnuts, which have more omega-3s than other nuts)
☑ Soy products (tofu, tempeh, edamame)
Bad choices:
☒ Bottom-feeding fish, such as shark, swordfish, tuna (higher risk of mercury)
☒ Saturated fats (from four-legged animals; palm and coconut oils)

4. Three or four servings of calcium-rich foods
Good choices:
☑ Low-fat yogurt and pasteurized cheese
☑ Organic skim milk (Watch calorie counts on alternative milks such as rice milk; you may choose to limit soymilk to one to two glasses daily because of phytoestrogens; there's concern about the feminization of the brain and other organs, including sex organs.)

5. Five or more grams of fat in the form of omega-3s (like walnuts, flax, or avocados); five grams of omega-9s (olive oil); and five grams of omega-6s (corn and nut oils).
Bad choices:
☒ Saturated fat (palm and coconut oils) and trans fat (anything "partially hydrogenated")

Other bad choices:
☒ Simple sugars
☒ Syrups
☒ High-fructose corn syrup
☒ Soda, carbonated drinks
☒ Foods that have any potential safety issues, like undercooked meats and eggs, and foods for which there is any question about refrigeration
☒ Alcohol
☒ More than 200 milligrams caffeine per day (1 cup of regular coffee or 2 cups of black tea)

While it is your job to provide a good nutritional environment for your growing baby, you don't have to feel bad if you occasionally stray from our recommendations. Forty weeks is a mighty long time, and if on some days you stray from the ideal, that's perfectly normal -- and perfectly okay. The important thing is to eat well most of the time.

Yard Sale Mania

Shirley and I decided to hit up some yard sales this morning. While on our way to check out Covington area yard sales we got "stuck" in Lakeland! We went to Lakeland thinking we'd hit a couple we saw in the paper but ended up stumbling upon the Lakeland Yard Sale Weekend Extravaganza! OMG! The whole town was in on it! We had so much fun rooting thru stuff. We both found some great deals.

Hubby even found something!

I decided to wear my BRAND NEW Red Sox shirt today! It was my very first Mother's Day gift! Thanks so much, Kara!!

Now it's time to ice the back and have a late afternoon nap before the big game tonight! Go Red Sox!

Happy Birthday to my Nick-Pick! 14 years old! Love you!

From Blob to Baby

I went in for some tests and had another ultrasound. I was brought to tears again when I saw what looks like a real baby now!

No more blob!

I am just shy of my 2nd trimester and can't believe how fast the time has gone.

Travis was not able to make it to the testing ultrasound, so here are some pics of him seeing BabyDear...

Such a proud Daddy!!!

Enjoying our Yard

We all took a nap in the sunshine a couple weekends ago. Our first nice day since Fall 2011!

Here is a picture of our front yard on bloom. Yes, those are BSU Flamingos in the yard!

Our front porch gets some amazing sunshine and has a wonderful view of the sunset.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day 2011
10 weeks 5 days

What a great day! We got the garage cleaned out, made a trip to the dump and set a new Skype record! 4 hours and 35 minutes!

We decided to get together to craft via Skype. We made tissue paper balls for Kara's nursery. They made 10 in Idaho and I made 3 here in Seattle! We continued to work on projects together while talked, laughed and pigged out! They even got to see my Oreo dance! It was hard to believe I was 8 hours away! What a great time!

Happy Mother's Day to my mom, Chris, my step mom, Janet, to my mother in-law, Judy, my Grandmother in-law Marie and lastly, to my sister Kara, who will be having her third baby 3.5 months before me! I love you all and thank you all for your love and support.

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mothers out there. We wouldn't be here without you!

Weird. (as Hubby would say)
